Twilight Beggars

Twilight Beggars are unhoused spirits that follow you underground on your way to catch the M train downtown. They tread quietly behind you, hoping you’ll notice them, if by chance you should turn around. In 1998, Frances8 formed to make music that would push the audience out of its comfort zone and Twilight Beggars is the first album they recorded. From a tiny hole-in-the-wall rehearsal studio in San Francisco’s Mission district, Monday nights were bursting with creativity and excitement as the band built its original repertoire. Inspired by PJ Harvey, The Throwing Muses, Sinead O’Connor and Tom Waits, the music traverses over raw and edgy terrain. There are also beautiful moments of long, swelling violin riffs and broad, sustaining drones from the upright bass. Vocals might lash out with ferocity at times or gently whisper secrets from a troubled past. These songs knit together a story marked by trauma, recovery, pain, empowerment, struggle and survival.
